how physiotherapy treatments effectively help victims recover from msd

The physical posterior, or the back, not only houses the main framework of our musculoskeletal system, it is also one of the most vulnerable and susceptible to injuries. Sports-related injuries, carrying heavy objects, and improper posture cause aches from the neck down to the lower back, collectively known as musculoskeletal disorder (MSD).

Basically identified as back pain, the MSD often occurs when too much stress and pressure is applied on our backs without sufficient rest. Some cases of MSD’s may also become a symptom of a more serious medical condition, if not addressed immediately. It is quite rare, though, that an MSD directly would come from a prior health issue.

Victims of back pain are mostly adults, but those who experience from severe MSD’s like joint degeneration are usually elders over 60 years old. Younger adults from ages 30 to 60 experience disc-related pain like lumbar disc herniation, or strains in back muscles and soft tissues. Lower back is the most common type of MSD, but severity of pain greatly varies.

The Physiotherapy Treatment

Physiotherapy is a holistic approach in medicine that aims to manage pain and restore functions of the physical body. With a series of methods, it treats all individuals affected by illness, injury or disability, although most involve areas in the musculoskeletal system.

While practitioners of physio in London are usually stationed in hospitals or private clinics, some of these healthcare professionals may also be found in offices, charities, and sports organisations. Registered practitioners, such as those from CK Physio, ensure that each treatment is suitable to the needs of their patients through careful examination. The physiotherapist will then recommend one or more particular procedures to facilitate recovery.

A survey from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSR) in the United Kingdom said that most individuals that went off sick from work have another form of MSD known as work relevant upper limb disorder (WRULD). This illness results from the combined repetitive strain injury (RSI) and neck pain, most effectively treated with physiotherapy. Around 80% of patients with WRULD are able to work soon after having treatments in physiotherapy in London and did not get off sick again, based from the CSR survey.

Generally, the practice encompasses common massage techniques such as manipulative therapy, soft tissue massage, and electrotherapy. Besides ailments in joints and tissues, physiotherapists also work on cardiovascular, neuromuscular and respiratory problems of the body. With these techniques, the patient is able to experience much-needed relief from chronic ills, such as persistent back pains.
